Balancing Act

Have you ever tried to walk on the curb without falling? Or you remember trying to stay on the balance beam in gym class- trying not to fall, so you don’t get hurt, or worse, laughed at? As long as I was low to the ground, I could make it through. As soon as that curb or beam was higher than a foot – I would falter and stumble – losing my balance.

Life is like that curb. I balance as much as I can, but my pile gets past a certain point – and I start to stumble, and then fall.

Learning how to balance everything takes patience – patience I don’t always have. I could be the tightrope walker balancing above the Grand Canyon after years of mastering the technique and skills needed. Or I could do what I usually do, procrastinate til the very last second, do everything at once, and hope for the best.

Because in reality- most of us don’t have years to practice. Most of us are just trying to survive one day to the next. So balance sometimes takes a backseat in this crash course I call life. There are a few things I have been able to implement successfully – trial and error has provided me a few areas of balance. Others, I have let completely fall – and honestly that is okay with me. Balance is important- but it also means letting go of the things you don’t need in your life.

I want to share my balancing act with you – to help pave easier ways for everyone, and provide a place to share new ideas. Hopefully together we will end up with less bruises, and easier lives, as well as some stories that we can commiserate over now, and laugh about later.

I am a full time working mom with a demanding job, a long commute, and a military husband who isn’t always home. I have a pre-teen and a teenager with their own interests and their own schedules. And because I thought it would be fun – Graduate school (for a second Master’s). This blog is my downtime, my way of doing something for myself. In addition to all this, I strive to eat healthy, lose weight, learn more about my spiritual beliefs, am a part of a book club and I am on a kickball team. As you can imagine, my balanced life isn’t always quite so balanced – and some things don’t always make it to the top of the list. But that’s okay- because at the end of the day, if I’ve accomplished at least one thing, and remembered to compliment someone- its been a successful day.

Curbs are fun to walk on – when your center of gravity is low!

What are your balancing acts?
